“I was in a hit and run accident what should I do?”

There are a lot of Hit and Run accidents out there. What to do if it happens to you? Do all you can to protect any evidence that might identify the hit and run driver. Save any photos of the driver, the car or tags.  Most everyone is now carrying a cell phone with a camera app. We have recently been able to track down the hit and run driver just from a cell phone photo of the other driver. Make note of the date and time of the accident, and look around. Are there any witnesses?  If so get their names and contact information. Make note of the area homes or businesses. We have been able to find witnesses that were unknown just by reaching homes or businesses in the area. In one case there was a restaurant at the corner. Our investigator went from table to table at the same time the next few days and finally found an important eye witness.

Immediately contact the police and describe the accident to them. Police often can track a hit and run suspect as part of their investigation.

Contact your insurance company soon. Generally, if you are injured in a hit and run accident your own insurance company will pay the liability claim, as part of the uninsured motorist provision of your insurance policy.
